How did YOU discover Homebrew and what was your reason to mod? (Mine was for Tomodachi Life bc im broke)

Poking around in my PSP. Back then, you had to physically and permanently modify a battery to gain entry. Then Wii released, and the rest is history.
A friend of mine, all the way back in elementary school. He helped me mod my Wii U. 8 years later and I'm still doing it xD
And same reason: poor.
3ds. I saw someone use custom themes online and I had so much fun modding, I went over to more consoles
it was around 2022/2023 when i discovered modding, i dont remember much of it, but i do remember that i found out my wii was modded years after i got it in 2016 lol
i found modding when the nintendo servers shut down for the wii u and my reason to mod was to play online (lil fun fakt abt me while i modded this wii u: my brother wanted to help but he just sat there while i modded)
and i forgot how i found modding
i had watched michael mjds video of installing macos 9 on the wii, and i was intrigued. that was like 3-4 years ago
my dad had a ps vita in a cupboard just collecting dust. eventually, i found it, found its charger and modded it. before that was my kindle, but i dont think that counts :3
Xbox 360. I discovered the new softmod methods back in March, and I downloaded some homebrew stuff that I thought would be useful for such an old Xbox. The next month, I modded my 3DS to get all of the games back that had disappeared from my home menu for some reason
I hate having devices locked down, especially when theyre fully functional without ''official support''
a frend of mine showed me their modded 3ds one day, and we learned that my at-the-time unmodded 3ds could download play with his modded one. i eventually disided to mod my own using the 3dshacks guide and an SD reader borrowed from a different frend. i just didnt want it dead
I first modded mine wayyyyy back because I wanted to get a pre-release game.... guess who got permanently banned from official servers lol.
Thanks for sharing! I know I already said my reason, but I also had more reasons, such as using Checkpoint to preserve my physical games and also for Miiverse, but also to play some games that were eShop exclusives. The end :p
