I lost 1 year of progress on New Leaf :'( Im going to take a rest and decide if continue with the town or start from scratch.

you should use checkpoint to backup your saves just in case, for future reference.
I've lost 4 saves since 2012 but I still play. I know its hard not to get salty and all but its sooo good and new horizons is a joke... Well I haven't tried the 3.0 update but still.
How does this happen? I keep frequent backups just in case.
