Don't hate me but I have a question regarding Mario Kart 7 to unlock new karts and kart pieces you need to collect coins. my question is does it count for the coins you collected period? or with the amount of coins you finish the race with? thanks!

I think it's only the coins you end with meaning the maximum is 10, which kinda sucks but keep getting those coins anyway, the tiny boost is nice.
I was not sure either so i kept collecting them and played the game how i would normally play
