I want to recommend the 3DS app Artic Base, which lets you play your original games on PC without needing to dump them (and with the controler of your choice) Plus all your progres save directly to the console. Its basically like the Switch’s docked mode, but for our beloved 3DS!

Does it work with old 3DS?
I checked on the official Github page and it does not says that is a 3ds exclusive, so give it a try. Let us know if it works
