Im thinking of getting wiiu so i can mod it and play games on it, but theyre really expensive to get. Is it worth it for its modding capabilities or should i just stick with my 2ds?

Yeah, 100%! I'm getting one in 2 weeks, because I really wanna try some of the cool stuff like DS Emulating, Splatoon, MK8, etc.
If you have a Switch, most games are ported there. Wii U can be pretty cheap if you manage to score a good deal.
Worth it.
If you play Wii games or if you like the Wii U games then maybe If not then its not worth it because most of the games are on the switch and the switch 2 is comming soon also with Wii U homebrew there are a lot of problems
So if you really like the games then yes its worth it
