FCs are 3DS only, but I believe that adding a friend on Miiverse also adds them to Wii U friends. Besides, messaging only works via Miiverse lol
BTW, please install Swapnote as there's no other way of sending messages, and make sure to use StreetPass... but note that -any- of your friends may receive it, which is a bit of a problem lol
