idk, since i've never paired a different gamepad. i do know that in the "sync controler" screen, it says to "press the sync button again to pair a gamepad", so maybe if you paired a different gamepad it would stop auto-starting your other one.

maybe it would be different bc the new one wouldn't have your quick start information and gamepad settings in it but other than that it should be pretty much the same, right?
