The 3DS being expensive feels so artificial. The Wii U is technically rarer because it had fewer units sell, was more powerful and more expensive at lauch. Nowadays, though, the Wii U is cheaper.

I would assume it has to do with demand. More people want 3DS due to its portability and success in its lifetime.
