ive never really been into the pokemon games but ive decided i'll give it a try starting with alpha sapphire, if you guys have any other recommendations from earlier or later gens let me know and i might give it a shot if i find alpha sapphire fun :)

Alpha is probably a goodplace to start.. However, be warned; Generation 6 has many of the newer mechanics and quality of life improvements thar earlier generations lack. So, if you plan on playing those titles, be prepared to relearn and live without some of those mechanics..
run while you can and do NOT collect cards, save yourself
Ultra Sun anf Ultra moon have a realy solid story and pokedex, as well as acces to most/all the legendaries from previous games via the Ultra-wormhole
