I've used my Nintendo Network ID for Splatoon, but no one joined...
I do! We never recommend removing your NNID by the way. I don't think I've actually used my Nintendo profile post shutdown though (I think I used it for Dumpling and fixing error 022-5432).
I do both on my 3DS and Wii U.
On both 3ds systems I own, I kept it mostly for Nostalgia
