Honestly, I would buy the Wii U version if there were servers. But I don't know how that would work.

You can let your Wii U run like a server does and turn off the TV and Gamepad!
The wii u online works but requires modded wii
I think that would work, but I'd be woried about the Wii U getting too hot.
