It's a social simulation game on the Nintendo 3DS. It's probably the most popular game on the whole platform, since it's one of the only game that has social features, like messaging, visiting each other's towns (up to 4 people can), etc.

In AC:NL, you are the mayor of a town and live your daily life improving your town and making friends. There's even an online island that lets you meet random people from around the world, but it's currently down until Pretendo supports it. I really recommend AC:NL!

Once you've added a player to your Friend List, you can add them as a Best Friend, which lets you private message them when they're online.

In AC:NL, there's a huge variety of furniture (over 800, I think) and more than 300 villagers. There's also a lot of clothing options, and the Welcome Amiibo update introduced amiibo features (When you ask Wisp to invite a villager, they will appear in the Campsite).

The game is super boring at first, but once past the first part (unlocking PWPs and Ordinances), the game gets a lot more fun.
