A Wii U is a little harder to buy reasonably, but it's a retro console powerhouse and plays Wii games. Plus, you presumably own a 3DS, which makes a Wii U even better modding wise.

Im going to be quirky and different and say unless you have specific wii u games you want to play you should get a wii. The wii is cheaper and is still decent for emulation. Plus gamecube games on wii are better since it can use real gc memcards and controllers without an adapter

Also wii still has online revival services that are quite good even if they aren't directly compatible with pretendo
