i was in the same boat as you earlier this year but i can confirm getting a wii u is worth it also there is a splatoon demake for the 3ds in the works called splatoon legends so look out for that tho its nowhere near done

As for me, I would recommend you buying a WII U only if you're a huge nintendo fan. Most games are already on switch, why would you need a separated console for Splatoon? In my region wii u costs 100 dollars, it doesn't worth it.
