Level and skill based match making was needed for this game.
i found someone spinbotting after they managed to get me into a weird unranked rainmaker match with blue and white ink. then after that match they let 5 people in so it was a 4v1
part of the "get curbstomped by people way above your skill" splatoon experience. also, i think i was in the same match car was talking about. Turf War wih a rainmaker is suprisingly very fun.
