What model and brand? You can use wii video cables for the wiiu.
it's a magnavox '05 model has a built-in dvd player and was manufactured in september. i already have my original wii's av cable connected to it and have it set to 4:3, but it fits the screen better in 16:9 due to 4:3 displaing in somewhat like letterbox.
