The new 3ds acts weirdly if the card is larger than 128 GB. The format that the 3DS uses is Fat 32, meaning its limit is 32 GB. Fat 32 can have higher amounts, but it can only handle up to 128 GB, maybe 256 GB.
fat32 works up to 2 terabytes, you just have to format it in a strange way
