From I think a DYKG video there was some Japan survey where they found a majority of players got stuck at the fire temple(on N64) I've beaten it with not so much difficulty as patience and time and was last in the middle of Master Quest which was for me a great challenge so far.

Was going to make it a question on difficulty. Also you need to learn using the nuts in Master Quest.
