this might sound like a dumb question... i can get mario kart 8 to connect to the internet via pretendo obviously but not splatoon... im assuming splatoon is supported? idk.. im kinda at a loss here...

Splatoon is supported but im assuming your getting an error code if you cant connect to splatoon
