Now that i have a modded 3ds, i think i might look to mod my Wii U too! Is it just as easy to do so?

Depends on experience, with next to none other than modding my 3DS I was done in ten mins
It was pretty easy for me, and I had only had modded a 3DS then. BTW get a 64 SD card or bigger if you wanna do a lot with it.
wii u had maybe 1 or 2 extra steps but still simple
