3DS is great because you can use circle pad patches for DS(i) games though
I would stick with a 3DS XL for DS games, you can either use an R4 cartridge or install games on your SD card and take advantage of joystick patches like the one for Mario 64 DS which make the game more comfortable to play.
Only if you don't already have a 3ds system
