how cool is missinformation! The prototype wasn't even called Mania 2, and was cancelled by Evening Star to make their own game. Superstars came about because Naoto Oshima and Yuji Naka wanted to make a new Classic Sonic, being a project that HAD NO RELATIONSHIP WITH THE PROTO
