Something similar happened to me on Miitopia. I had to switch from Pretendo back to NNID. I don't know why it happened but I assume it may be that Pretendo doesn't support it yet?
Yeah its more than likely that Pretendo doesn't support online functionality for those games yet, for now ig use nintendo's servers for acnl since they're still running until they go down.
