Nintendo seems to have a thing for remaking old games lately. Wonder why.

a probable guess as to why is because the older ones look unpolished and straight dookie. Also to keep it up to date.
It's probably a lot easier, no need to plan a story or character designs when it's been done already. Older fans who played the original probably won't need much convincing to buy it either if the liked the original.
