Yes. It can occur with absolute dogshit SD cards, or if you power off your console while saving. Imo its like a shark bite- scary, but not very likely to happen if you are careful.
For 3ds: I had it happen to a MicroSD once. Back up your files now to a PC/ smart device, then if it gets corrupted, format your SD card, and put your backup on it.
