Does anyone have any tips for making money in the early months of the game? I'm generally new to AC in general and feel like my growth is becoming more of a chore if anything else

Take things and sell em sand dollars cabinets shoes-anything you won't be using, even if its a seasonal item.
have you unlocked the island? its free with your first house upgrade. go there after 5PM, remove all the plants EXCEPT for palm trees, then you can catch rare beetles for a lotta money. You can catch sharks too!
take it easy, this game is trying to teach you patience, so just relax and take it one day at a time :3
