Is it worth trying to shiny hunt groudon or should I just get the normal one? I do not have the shiny charm and I have sunk about 2 hours into it now.

I'd say go for it because it's the last game that allows you to get Primal Groudon imo
OH yeah, such a waste of mechanics but hope champions will bring EVERYTHING back together, exept, like rayquaza's mega with no stones maybe, or just make it not so OP
I'd say go for it! Groudon has a really cool shiny, and I think you'll be glad you didn't give up.
