when i want to play mario kart 8 online, it says it couldn't connect to other players what causes that?

i want to buy a original wii remote (i have 3rd party ones) and the wii remotes are so expensive in my area that a wii with cables and a wii remote is a very little bit more expensive so i'il probably get the wii with wii remote
